Alban of Britain: The First British Martyr

A devotional reflection on Alban’s hospitality and courage.

Church Martyrs Before 1600

Hospitality can lead to holy courage. Alban sheltered a persecuted priest, was converted, and exchanged clothes with him to protect him. Arrested in his place, Alban confessed Christ boldly and was executed.

Be not forgetful to entertain strangers. (Hebrews 13:2)

Whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it. (Matthew 16:25)

The righteous are bold as a lion. (Proverbs 28:1)
