About Athens Bible Church

Who We Are

Athens Bible Church is an independent, non‑denominational fellowship made up of people from a wide range of backgrounds, ages, and life experiences. What unites us is not a denomination or tradition, but a shared commitment to the truth of Scripture, a life shaped by prayer, and a desire to live out our faith in practical, everyday ways.

We value genuine community—one where people can grow, ask questions, serve, and be known. Whether you’re exploring Christianity for the first time, searching for a church family, or simply visiting the Athens area, you’ll find a warm welcome and a place where you can feel at home. Our hope is that every person who walks through our doors encounters both the love of God and the encouragement of His people.

Our History

Athens Bible Church began in the early 1970s when a small group of believers felt called to establish a fellowship centered on solid Bible teaching and gospel outreach at Ohio University. What started as a simple gathering of Christians with a shared vision gradually grew into a vibrant church family.

Over the decades, God has faithfully sustained and shaped our fellowship. While our size and ministries have expanded, our foundation remains the same: a steadfast commitment to the authority of Scripture and the mission of making Christ known. Today, we continue to serve both the Athens community and the wider world through teaching, discipleship, missions support, and practical acts of service.

As we look ahead, we remain grateful for God’s past provision and eager to follow His leading into the future—always seeking to be a church that reflects His truth, grace, and love.

What We Believe

At Athens Bible Church, we believe that sound doctrine is not merely something to study—it is meant to shape the whole of life. What we believe about God, Scripture, salvation, and the Christian walk directly influences how we worship, how we serve, how we love one another, and how we engage the world around us.

Our convictions are rooted in the Bible, which we hold as the inspired and authoritative Word of God. We seek to teach it faithfully, apply it thoughtfully, and live it out with integrity and joy. Good theology should lead to transformed lives, deeper worship, and a growing desire to reflect Christ in all we do.

If you would like to explore our beliefs in more detail, we invite you to read our full doctrinal statement below. It outlines the core truths that guide our teaching, shape our ministries, and unite us as a church family.
