Antonia Fortress Archaeology and Historical Background

The Antonia Fortress stood at the northwest corner of the Temple Mount. Archaeological remains include massive Herodian stone foundations and pavement stones associated with Roman military presence. The fortress overlooked the Temple courts and served as a barracks for soldiers. The setting aligns with Gospel descriptions of Jesus being brought before Roman authority.
