Idolatry: Guarding Your Heart From Rivals

A devotional reflection on removing anything that competes with devotion to God.

Topical

Idolatry is giving the heart to anything above God. Scripture teaches that idols can be visible or hidden—anything we trust, love, or desire more than God. True worship belongs to Him alone.

Little children, keep yourselves from idols. (1 John 5:21)

Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3)

Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Matthew 6:21)

Christian Application

Idolatry encourages believers to examine their hearts and return to wholehearted devotion. Identify idols, surrender them, and give God first place.

Sample Prayer

Lord, reveal any idols in my heart and help me worship You alone. Amen.

Hymns for Topical

This devotional pairs well with the hymns Take My Life and Let It Be by Frances Havergal, Jesus Paid It All by Elvina Hall, and Be Thou My Vision by Dallan Forgaill.
