Perpetua and Felicity: Courage in the Face of Fear

A devotional reflection on two young mothers who chose Christ over safety.

Church Martyrs Before 1600

Christ gives courage to the weak. Perpetua, a noblewoman, and Felicity, a slave, faced martyrdom together. Their unity in Christ overcame social barriers. Their courage came not from strength but from surrender to Jesus.

I cannot be called anything other than what I am. (Perpetua)

Perfect love casteth out fear. (1 John 4:18)

To live is Christ, and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21)

Christian Application

This devotional encourages believers that Christ empowers ordinary people to face extraordinary trials. Trust Jesus with your fears today. His love strengthens the trembling heart.

Sample Prayer

Lord, give me courage like Perpetua and Felicity. Help me stand firm in Your love. Amen.

Hymns for Church Martyrs Before 1600

This devotional pairs well with the hymns Be Still My Soul by Katharina von Schlegel, Jesus Lover of My Soul by Charles Wesley, and Nearer My God to Thee by Sarah Adams.
