Stephen: The First Martyr of the Church

A devotional reflection on Stephen’s bold witness and forgiving spirit.

Church Martyrs Before 1600

True courage flows from seeing Christ clearly. Stephen’s preaching confronted hardened hearts, yet his face shone like an angel. As stones struck him, he prayed for his killers. His vision of Christ standing at God’s right hand gave him strength to endure.

Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. (Acts 7:60)

Behold, I see the heavens opened. (Acts 7:56)

Full of faith and of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 6:5)

Christian Application

This devotional encourages believers that suffering becomes bearable when Christ is our focus. Fix your eyes on Jesus today. Let His presence strengthen your witness.

Sample Prayer

Lord, give me Stephen’s courage and compassion. Help me forgive as You forgave. Amen.

Hymns for Church Martyrs Before 1600
