Jonah: The God Who Shows Mercy To The Undeserving

A devotional reflection on God’s compassion, human reluctance, and the wideness of His mercy.

Jonah

Jonah reveals God’s mercy toward all nations. Jonah teaches that God’s compassion extends far beyond human expectations. He pursues the disobedient prophet and the wicked city alike, showing that His grace is greater than our failures and prejudices.

Arise, go unto Nineveh. (Jonah 1:2)

Salvation is of the LORD. (Jonah 2:9)

Should not I spare Nineveh? (Jonah 4:11)

Christian Application

Jonah encourages believers that God is patient, forgiving, and eager to restore. He invites His people to share His heart for the lost. Obey God’s call, extend mercy to others, and trust His compassion.

Sample Prayer

Lord, give me a heart that reflects Your mercy and a willingness to obey Your call. Amen.

Hymns for Jonah

This devotional pairs well with the hymns Jesus Saves by Priscilla Owens, Come Thou Fount by Robert Robinson, and Amazing Grace by John Newton.
